Tips and Hints

How to decide if you need a climate-controlled unit - If you think that your items should not be subjected to drastic changes in temperature, if your items are sensitive to temperature changes, i.e. fine wood, antiques, electronic equipment, merchandise, product samples, records and other paperwork, then you should look at our climate controlled units.

Storage Hint - All of our floors are concrete, so please place stored items on a plastic or paper pad or raise them up on skids.

Facility Lighting - The exterior of our regular storage units are lit, the interior of the regular units are not. In the Climate Controlled units, there are interior lighting provided so that the doors can be kept closed to keep in the “Climate”.

Climate Controlled Access Features 2-Story Building - We have a freight lift for our 2nd floor units and we have handcarts available for customers on both floors.

Deliveries - We have a form that you can fill out if you need to have us accept deliveries for your unit. The delivery person would come to our office and sign in and then deliver your items directly into your unit. United States Postal Service will not deliver to a storage unit.

Miscellaneous Tips - Place everything possible in boxes, do not store food. Try to use the same size boxes to make it easier to stack. Try not to stack too high. Try to leave room for airflow between your items, walls, ceiling and door. Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on top of or next to upholstered furniture. Protect your mattresses, sofas, and chairs, make sure they are well covered. Reduce dust and dirt on your belongings -- cover everything with a light tarp. Keep a list of all items you put into storage as well as pictures, and descriptions.

Packing and Storing Specific Items Hints - Wedge appliance doors open while in storage. Wrap a paper pad around each item for protection. Tie bed rails together with rope or plastic tape. Line all book cartons with plastic and fill empty spaces with packing paper. (Garbage bags work well as a liner). Treat your bureau drawers as extra packing boxes. Fill them with a few small and fragile items. Sweaters, blankets, and towels make excellent padding. Hanging clothes should be packed in a wardrobe carton.

WARNING: Do Not Store Combustibles, Hazardous Materials or Perishables! Items like old paint, cleaning fluids, gasoline can be dangerous when stored over a long period of time. Make certain all fuel is drained or burned out of gasoline powered equipment.
